Oyibode Prioritizes Infrastructure Safety, Empowers Communities To Secure Railway.
By factsreporters.
In a decisive move to safeguard critical public infrastructure and enhance community security, the Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Hon. Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA, has inaugurated a Joint Vigilante Security Team comprising personnel from Ujevwu, Egini, and Orhuwhorun communities.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Ujevwu, brought together security stakeholders, community leaders, and legislative representatives, all united in the commitment to protect the railway line stretching from Ujevwu to Aragba, a major transport lifeline crucial to mobility and economic activities within the Udu axis.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Oyibode emphasized that the primary mandate of the newly constituted team is to ensure maximum protection of the railway corridor against vandalism and other security threats. He issued a stern warning to criminal elements targeting public infrastructure, insisting that anyone caught tampering with government facilities would face the full weight of the law.
“The council will not tolerate acts capable of undermining public safety and development. Our infrastructure must be protected for the collective good of our people,” he declared.
As part of the operational rollout, Mr. OBJ, appointed as Head of the Mission, held a strategic interface with members of the joint security team to harmonize approaches on surveillance, intelligence sharing, discipline, and unity of purpose. The session focused on building professionalism and sustained collaboration among the participating communities.
Commending the initiative, the Station Superintendent of the Ujevwu Railway Station, Mr. Emmanuel Amobi, described the move as timely and proactive, noting that community-backed vigilance will significantly deter vandalism and promote safety along the rail corridor.
“This initiative will go a long way in curbing recurring threats to railway infrastructure. It is a welcome development that strengthens community and government collaboration,” he stated.
In his remarks, Hon. Lawrence Oyeye, representing Ujevwu Ward 14 in the Udu Legislative House, applauded Hon. Oyibode’s leadership, describing him as a forward-thinking Chief Security Officer of the local government area. He assured the council chairman of continued legislative support toward policies that foster peace, development, and infrastructural protection.
Also lending his voice, Comrade Freeborn Dezu, President General of Ujevwu Community, expressed satisfaction with the inclusive structure of the security initiative, which brings neighboring communities together for a shared purpose.
“We are fully committed to this mission. This collaboration strengthens unity and ensures that our railway line and other infrastructures remain protected,” Dezu affirmed.
The inauguration of the joint vigilante team marks a renewed commitment by the Udu Local Government Council to promote community-driven security, inter-community partnership, and sustainable protection of strategic assets, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to secure the environment for development and public welfare.
